Do you still have a landline? Or do you rely on your mobile phone for everything?
It might sound strange but some people do indeed have their mobile phones on them at all times and they don’t use their landlines at all. That is one thing, but the next step from there is when they decide to get rid of their landline altogether. Is this a wise move, or do you really need that landline?
There is no doubting that mobile phones are extremely useful. They are great to have when you are out and about and you need to make a quick call. And of course many of us don’t use them as phones at all – we take advantage of the ability to be able to text each other which in many cases is faster.
In addition to this many people have their mobile phones on a regular monthly contract. This means that they will pay a fixed amount each month for a specific number of benefits. For example you might get a certain amount of free call time and a certain number of texts.
When you compare the home phone to the benefits offered by a mobile phone contract, it is no wonder that some people decide to do away with the home phone altogether. After all, you would essentially be paying two monthly contracts when you could conceivably get away with paying just one. Relying on your mobile phone all the time could actually save you money.
But there are disadvantages here too. If you have ever had a power cut then you would know that it can be a while before the power comes back on again. And if you are stuck without it for a day or more, you could end up with a mobile phone that runs out of power itself. And there is no way you can charge it again either, unless you have an in car charger you could use for a while.
If you needed to make any phone calls during a time like this you wouldn’t be able to do it. But if you had a basic home phone that plugs directly into a phone socket you would still be able to make essential calls. If you do decide to stick just with a mobile phone you should at least make sure you keep it fully charged. At least then you would be able to make it last if you did have problems with your power at home.
As you can see it can be tricky just to have a mobile phone, whereas having the home phone as well can be expensive. Everyone has their own ideas about whether or not they could manage just with a mobile or with both phones, but at the end of the day you need to make the decision for yourself.
Just make sure you consider all the possibilities before you make that decision.
